They don't give medals in whining
I am getting really sick and tired of the International Federation of Gymnastics (FIG) asking Paul Hamm to give up his gold.
It's ridiculous. Paul Hamm's gold is not even in question.
Yes-- the judges are simps who did not give Yang Tae Young the correct start value (a 9.9 instead of a 10.0)-- but the fact remains that even WITH that correction-- Young did FOUR holds on the parallel bars, which means a mandatory .2 deduction. Anything over three holds is verboten and requires the above posted deduction. With the proper start value(not given), and the proper *MANDATORY* deduction (also NOT given), the results would have been exactly the same.
Therefore-- Paul Hamm *did* win the gold medal. Even IF the judges had done their job correctly. For the FIG to deflect all of their own judge's mistakes onto Paul Hamm in an effort to cover up the fact that their judges are biased, complete idiots-- is a sad commentary. Paul Hamm did NOTHING wrong-- and should be left alone to celebrate his momentus achievement.
The sad thing on this-- is the FIG trying to play the "sportsmanship" card. When we all know what they really mean. With all their mentioning of the ill-will that the world holds against us-- it is a cheap ploy to get Paul Hamm to give up what is rightfully his.
And I think it is crass, wrong, and an insult to the holy grail of sports-- that being the Olympics.
I do not question Yang Tae Young's skills as a gymnast (even though he totally broke down during the individual finals, namely-- the high bar).. the fact remains that the genius of competition is that Paul Hamm, on that given day in Athens, *WAS*-- beyond a shadow of a doubt-- the better competitor, and he won-- fair and square.
Now-- if they gave medals in cry-baby-whiny-butt protests-- YES-- the Koreans would win, only a hair ahead of the Russians.
Move on-- and bring on Beijing, baby!!
